True love.....

"I have a question...do you think true love can exist outside of the bond of mother and child?" I looked at him a little confused.

"Are you asking me if true love only exists between a mother and a child?" He looks at me in affirmation, and I think about it for a while.

"No, I think two people that are not related can truly love one another."

"I disagree." He says, "I believe that two people can have a strong like for each other and they can care for each other, but you can truly only love your child or your mother...everything else is like only."

I was a little annoyed by the conversation. I always believed that two people could love each other unconditionally and that love could conquer everything...but life has taught me that love definitely cannot conquer anything...and people don't love unconditionally...they just put up with each other.

What do you think?

People settle, people become comfortable...and people forget.

life goes on, perhaps love is replaced by something else...I'm not sure what though.

There are a lot of different kinds of love. In fact, I'm reminded of some experiment where a class of young children were all asked to write down what they thought love meant.

I remember reading some really cute answers, but the one that really stood out to me (I don't know why) was "love is when mommy can go to the toilet in front of daddy and they don't find it disgusting"

I think everyone has their own interpretation of love.

But there are certain 'loves' that have a special status. For example, love for your Creator, Allah (swt) - that is a love which cannot be compared to anything else. Then there is love for the Messenger of Islam, Muhammad (saw). There is love for Islam and as you mentioned, love for your mother.

We all know the love for your mother is different to the love for your sister, which is again different to the love for your brother, your wife or husband, your friends, your teachers, your neighbours, etc.

I think that kind of love is defined by the relationship you have with that particular person.

And you would therefore have differing degrees of espousing and reciprocating that love to each individual person.

As for true love... I'm still waiting to find out what that feels like! All I do know, is that when I find true love, that true love will most certainly be coupled with disagreements, sharing, sacrificing and compromising. But for many people, that will still be the most captivating love that anyone can ever experience in this life...

mm..no i dont think they just put up with eachother. I think it is possible to love someone unconditionally even if he/she is not related to you, however i do believe that the love between a mother and child is the strongest.

Actually, I think it's possible 'strong like' can turn into love, but it depends on who the person is as well.

Mother-child is probably the strongest bond and the strongest example of such love but I think it's very possible to have true love outside of this relationship. It completely depends on the trust and understanding of both the people involved. I think it can very much happen. :)
